My website is not sending email, or Outlook keeps failing

Updated October 19, 2026 in Email and logins

If your store email is on Microsoft 365 (including Microsoft 365 bought through GoDaddy), one setting has to be on before your website can send through it: Authenticated SMTP for your store mailbox. It is off by default. Without it your store cannot send order confirmations, shipping notices or password resets.

The error looks like 535 5.7.139 ... SmtpClientAuthentication is disabled for the Tenant. That is not a password problem; it is this setting.

Turn it on in Microsoft 365

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center (admin.microsoft.com) as the account owner or administrator.
  2. Go to Users, Active users, and click your store mailbox.
  3. Open the Mail tab, then Manage email apps.
  4. Tick Authenticated SMTP and click Save changes.

If you bought your email through GoDaddy

In GoDaddy, open Email and Office, find your mailbox, and follow the link to the Microsoft 365 admin center, then do the steps above. If you cannot get in, call GoDaddy and ask them to enable Authenticated SMTP (sometimes called SMTP AUTH) at the account level, not just on the mailbox.

If GoDaddy shows it on but it still fails, check it inside Microsoft 365 as well: that is the setting that counts. Changes can take up to an hour. Email us once it is on and we will send a test.
