Got a MAP letter? Fix it and keep it fixed
When a manufacturer sends a MAP (minimum advertised price) letter, it lists the item, the UPC, their policy price and the price they saw. Here is how to fix it and keep it from happening again.
Note: We load every MAP list a manufacturer sends us into every store at once, lock it, and a watchdog checks your GunBroker listings every 5 minutes and raises anything below MAP. The current lists, dated, are on
Manufacturer MAP price lists
.
- Find the item. Search Products for the UPC in the letter and open it.
- Check the MAP. The MAP field should match the letter's policy price or be higher. If it is missing or lower, type the right MAP and save, or load the whole list (step 5).
- Check the manufacturer name. Distributors abbreviate brands (Safariland can arrive as "SL" or "SAF"). Your MAP rules are set per brand, so an abbreviation can slip past them. If the Manufacturer field is an abbreviation, change it to the real brand name and save.
- Check the brand's MAP rule. Open MAP Pricing Settings and make sure the brand is set to enforce MAP.
- Load the full list if the manufacturer sent one. Download the import file (CSV) from Manufacturer MAP price lists, open MAP Import (left menu, under Tools), choose the file, click Preview Import, then Import & Lock. Locked MAPs cannot be lowered by a distributor feed.
- Check GunBroker. Within about 5 minutes the listing is raised to MAP. Open it on GunBroker to confirm, then reply to the manufacturer that it is corrected.
