Keeping your product edits (the product lock)
Your catalog is refreshed automatically from the distributor feeds and our catalog updates. Anything you fix by hand is protected from those updates by the product lock, and the lock turns on by itself the moment you make a change. You do not have to remember to set it.
A product locks automatically when you:
- Edit its title, description, category, manufacturer, model or MPN and save.
- Upload a photo as the main image, or click Make Primary or Use as main image on one of your uploads.
- Click Remove on the main image (your own upload takes its place, or the product shows no photo until you add one).
- Remove an extra photo that came in automatically, or delete one of your uploads.
A locked product keeps your title, description, category and photos exactly as you left them. Stock, cost and price still update normally, so a locked product never goes stale on availability.
Even without the lock, any field your team changes on the product page stays the way you saved it. The overnight catalog update leaves it alone, including on products that came over from the starter catalog.
Prices are changed only in the pricing box at the top of the product page (MAP, MSRP and your price). Saving the main product form, for example to fix a description or switch a product off, does not touch pricing.
You can see the lock as the Lock Product Data box just above the Save Product button in the product editor. Leave it ticked on anything you have worked on. Untick it only if you want that product to go back to taking catalog updates.
Note: Changing a photo updates your website right away. If the product has a live GunBroker listing, its photo is replaced with your new main photo within about 15 minutes.
